Sixteen years ago at the young age of twenty-two, Monica Lewinsky was one of many White House intern working with President Bill Clinton.
Lewinsky’s name made headline news once it became known that she was
manipulated by the President of the United States into having sexual
contact. President Clinton was thirty-four years older then Lewinsky --
old enough to be Lewinsky’s father.
As a society we all need to be looking at what occurred through different lenses and make ourselves be aware of the grooming process often utilized by sexual predators.
There is a thirty-four year age difference between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Bill Clinton abused his power as the President of the United States. As an older man, it is obvious that he was able to use his wisdom and wit, to sexually manipulate an employee into performing sexual acts.
It is well known that Bill Clinton is extremely charismatic, charming, extremely intelligent and is a man who usually gets what he wants. It’s obviously Clinton befriended Monica Lewinsky, made her feel important and was able to gain her trust. As time progressed he tested boundaries by telling inappropriate jokes, finding ways to gently touch her and slowly play sexually charged psychological games on her as a way to test the waters.
Many professionals in the anti-rape movement believe that President Bill Clinton purposefully went from non-sexual touching to “accidental” sexual touching, which lead to purposeful, inappropriate touching, as a way to desensitize Monica Lewinsky into believing his actions were perfectly normal and ok.
Yes, Monica Lewinsky was legally an adult, yet as a society we tend to forget how emotionally immature a twenty-two year old person often is. We will never know everything that occurred between Lewinsky and Clinton; Yet to this day individuals worldwide are placing the blame on to young woman who was barely and adult -- who was sexually manipulated by her employer who was over thirty years her senior, who also happened to be the President of the United States of America.
Sixteen years later, our society including the news media is still bullying Monica Lewinsky. As a result of the news media’s relentless attacks, Monica Lewinsky is having difficulties in her attempts at seeking employment. It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Lewinsky is forced to use a pseudonym to protect her privacy; yet is unwilling to legally change her name. The truth is that changing one’s name will not stop the bullying. Those who wish to continue tormenting this young woman who was sexually victimized by her employer will continue. What would stop them from learning her new name. Yet the the truth is the issues have nothing to do with anything that Monica Lewinsky did or said. The issue is that our society continues to blame those who are sexually harassed, abused or assaulted, instead of placing the blame on those who perpetrate these types of crimes.
